Fire in Balaam’s Wood, Frankley
Fires were started again last night in Balaam’s Wood, 2nd incident in just over a week. A group of teenagers were seen sitting around a fire they had just made. Thankfully a couple of local people in the woods at the time spotted them, raised the alarm and rang the fire brigade who attended and put the fire out. After a further search of the woods by the fire brigade they found a couple of other fires that had gone unnoticed and these were put out and the area made safe.
Friends of Balaam’s Wood a group run by volunteers work tirelessly trying to make the woods safe and accessible for all the community to use and share, from clearing pathways, litter picking, tending to trees and shrub’s, repairing & replacing benches. Please let’s join together and start conversations at home to unable us all to feel safe and have fun and enjoy the outdoor spaces we have here in Frankley
If we can do one thing as a Community, please can you share at home tonight with your families the danger uncontrolled fires can cause, especially in a wooded area and most importantly what to do if you spot a fire i.e who to call and what to do to keep yourself and others safe.
